NV5 provided construction management services for this design/build project, which consists of nine miles of new freeway alignment with eight interchanges and a 1,100 meter long segmental bridge over the Otay River. The new alignment connects State Route 54 to State Highway 905. The project also included all underground drainage facilities, utility relocations (SDG&E, SBC, City of Chula Vista, City of San Diego, various water districts), retaining walls, soundwalls, Surveillance Operation Center building, communications systems, electrical lighting and signals, and irrigation and landscaping.
NV5 provided Resident Engineering, construction inspection, contract administration, scheduling, and oversight of construction staking and materials sampling and testing for the project. Our responsibilities also included design reviews at 35%, 65% and 95% levels; constructability reviews, permit and right-of-way document reviews; and coordination with Developers.
This toll way is the second largest transportation project in California’s history at $300 million and included the only other segmental bridge besides the new San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge.
