Building for the future demands smart, resilient solutions. NV5 delivers advanced engineering to meet modern demands and climate challenges.
As sustainable infrastructure evolves, advancements in geotechnical engineering and the use of innovative construction materials are essential to meet the growing demands of resiliency. Climate change and increasingly severe weather events impose new challenges, accelerating wear and premature failure of existing buildings and infrastructure. NV5 provides industry-leading solutions to ensure the safety, longevity, and performance of both new and in-service assets.
Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering
NV5 provides full-service geotechnical assistance throughout all phases of the development process, from feasibility and preliminary studies to geotechnical design, evaluations, and construction oversight.
Our team of qualified geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing (CMT), and contractor quality control (CQC) professionals assist owners and contractors in identifying geohazards and developing the safest, most cost-effective, and resilient earthwork and foundation solutions. We provide geotechnical reconnaissance, assessment, and investigations, as well as conventional and advanced laboratory testing, geotechnical engineering analysis and design, grading observations, soil testing, and forensic evaluations.
We specialize in soil compaction testing using drive ring, sand cone, and nuclear density gauge methods, as well as deep foundation assessments, including pile observations for timber, concrete, steel, and auger cast foundations. Our services also cover rammed aggregate and vibro-pier installation observations, shallow foundation subgrade evaluations via Dynamic Cone Penetrometer, and pavement testing to ensure long-term stability.
Code Compliance & Plan Review
NV5 ensures that construction projects meet regulatory requirements through expert code compliance evaluations and plan reviews. Our team assesses structural components, materials, and installation methods to ensure adherence to industry standards, helping prevent costly delays and rework.
We provide in-depth evaluations of reinforcing steel installations for concrete and load-bearing masonry, post-tensioned slab tendon measurements, and sheathing compliance for wall shear diaphragms. Our team also performs non-destructive testing of structural steel welds using magnetic particle, ultrasound, and x-ray methods, as well as thickness estimates of metal piping through ultrasonic testing.
Materials Testing & Inspection
Ensuring the integrity of construction materials is critical to the longevity of infrastructure. NV5 provides expert materials testing and inspection services to verify compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
Our team performs concrete quality control testing during placement, including temperature and slump measurements, and compressive strength testing for concrete, grout, and mortar. We oversee grout and mortar testing for load-bearing masonry, reinforcing steel installation inspections, and welded and bolted connections for structural steel, piping, and metal roof decking. Additionally, our team ensures fireproofing integrity through thickness testing of intumescent coatings and spray-applied fireproofing materials.
For vertical construction, we conduct framing observations for wood and cold-rolled metal structures, evaluate waterproofing systems, and inspect roofing installations for compliance. In horizontal construction, we perform soil and pavement testing to ensure proper compaction and durability.
Forensic Engineering
Structural failures and construction defects require expert analysis to determine cause and liability. NV5’s forensic engineers conduct detailed field and laboratory evaluations to assess material degradation, improper construction practices, and environmental impacts on infrastructure.
Our forensic services include post-installation epoxied anchor tensile strength analysis, fireproofing thickness and adhesion verification, and assessments of waterproofing, EIFS, and roofing installations. Whether investigating material failure or improper construction techniques, our team provides actionable insights to mitigate risk and enhance durability.
Built for Resilience
NV5’s industry-leading approach to materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and forensic evaluation ensures that infrastructure and buildings meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and performance. By combining cutting-edge laboratory analysis with on-site inspections, our experts deliver actionable solutions to support long-term asset integrity.
