NV5 is serving as the Owner’s Project Manager and providing MEP/FP/Telecom/Audiovisual engineering for the renovation of the historic City Hall in Chicopee, MA. This iconic 1871 structure, with its 147 foot tower, was modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
Interior work included accessibility upgrades in the auditorium and other public spaces, the installation of a building automation system, full renovation of all bathrooms to bring them up to code, installation of a TV broadcast system in the auditorium for televised meetings, light interior renovations to all office spaces, as well as refurbishment of roof top units and replacement of other HVAC equipment.
In-house presentation and sound systems, and broadcast capabilities were all updated during the renovation. The council chambers feature flexible infrastructure to allow for multiple configurations to serve council meetings, school board meetings, and various city board meetings. The system is fully capable of allowing for both local and remote presenters and participants to help provide digital equity to the citizens of Chicopee.
Exterior work included the rehabilitation of the building’s brick, stonework and masonry exterior, in addition to the restoration of the iconic stain glass windows that line the ornate auditorium.
