March 27th marks the anniversary of the world’s second most powerful earthquake ever recorded. The 1964 Alaskan Earthquake registered a magnitude of 9.2 and persisted for more than four minutes resulting in ground fissures, tsunamis, and landslides with effects experienced around the globe.
Quantum Spatial’s aerial image archive includes photos that capture before and after the devastating quake. Play the video below to view a time-lapse of Anchorage’s Earthquake Park, an area where an entire neighborhood was destroyed by a landslide triggered by the quake. With imagery spanning 1950 to 2016, you can see the area transform from pre-development through construction, destruction, and regeneration.
