The District of Columbia Court’s H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse is home of the District of Columbia Superior Court and is the busiest facility on DC’s historic Judiciary Square. In an effort to modernize, reorganize, and enlarge the Moultrie Courthouse, the project created an additional 175,800 SF on the south of the existing building.
The contemporary addition revitalizes the mid-century modernist limestone building. The expansion includes six state-of-the-art courtrooms and chambers for 21 judges, holding spaces, offices, administrative support areas, public spaces, and improved space for Jurors, Child Care, and the US Marshals Service.
Part of an eight story, 800,000 SF building, the project entailed strategic phasing allowing courthouse to remain fully operational throughout construction.
Extensive focus was placed on enhancing digital signage system for public spaces, including: Digital Bulletin Board: informational digital signage for listing news and events, Directory / Interactive wayfinding, Room scheduling information, Energy Utilization Dashboard and Emergency Alert messaging.
Originally constructed in 1976, the renovation to the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse enhances the Superior Court of the District of Columbia with state-of-the-art technology and the space needed to better serve the people and community.
