Safety Oversight of Semiconductor Plants

NV5 provided four inspectors/assessors with expertise in industrial hygiene, fire protection, chemical engineering, and design to a very large international confidential client.

Working with the Fabrication Plant (FAB) owner (Confidential Client) and General Contractor, NV5’s specialists inspections, assessments, and audits in order to improve the construction quality of the project. The project involved the design and construction of several very large semi-conductor fabrication facilities.

The inspection/assessment/auditing activity was based on the agreed international standards, guidelines and/or regulations. With successful implementation of international rules, these activities checked by the specialist resulted in the certification of the construction quality. Working with the FAB owner (Confidential Client), NV5’s Subject Matter Experts provided the inspection/assessment/auditing activity in order to improve the construction quality of chemical systems, fire protection systems, life safety, industrial hygiene and safety aspects of the project.

Work was conducted in South Korea and Xi’an, China.  The project was complex and challenging in many ways.  It was an international project; communication was a challenge due to different time zones and the fact that all communication with China is censored.  Safety standards were different for international clients.  Xi’an is a city impacted by significant poor air quality; at times, NV5’s inspectors were required to wear a mask any time they were outside.  The logistics of planning international projects was also a challenge, including preparing VISAs, permissions to enter the countries, vaccinations, travel necessities, and enhanced medical/travel insurance.
