NV5 is currently performing a Preliminary Site Assessment (PSA) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) at the Chico Municipal Airport. NV5 implemented the PSA work plan prepared by others pursuant to the State Water Resources Control Board Order WQ 2019-0005-DWQ. Investigative activities were performed at various locations within the airport where aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) was used and in downgradient areas to assess whether PFAS compounds have leached to groundwater beneath the site. NV5 drilled six borings using a sonic drill rig to collect continuous core soil samples, performed lithologic logging of soil and rock materials and collected soil and groundwater samples pursuant to the work plan. NV5 also sampled site drinking water and eight of the existing groundwater monitoring/extraction wells at the site. Soil and groundwater samples were submitted for laboratory analysis for PFAS and groundwater was additionally analyzed for general minerals. Laboratory results are pending completion. Upon receipt of the laboratory results, a PSA report will be prepared and submitted to the Regional Water Quality Control Board. This project is projected to be completed on time and within budget.
