NV5 provided MEP/FP design for a fat-track gut renovation and rework of 76,000 SF building featuring laboratory space, dry rooms and manufacturing assembly areas. This project resulted in tripling the production of COVID-19 test kits. This enabled the client to increase their manufacturing of test kits to 3,000,000 per month.
Highlights of NV5’s scope of services included:
- Implemented heat recovery from an air-cooled compressed air system. During the summer months the warm air from the compressors is exhausted outdoors with unconditioned outdoor air makeup to the compressor room via automatic dampers. During the winter when heat is needed, warm air from the compressors is automatically discharged via motorized dampers to the adjacent warehouse space, with return air from the warehouse.
- Installation of two “dry rooms,” each 3,000 to 5,000 SF controlled environments to maintain 10% relative humidity at 25 deg. C. Each room will have a vendor-designed environment control system including desiccant humidification;
- 3,000 to 5,000 SF of kitting and assembly space downstream of the dry rooms;
- Additional toilet rooms for expanded staff, including a new toilet room at the laboratory area;
- 7,500 SF mezzanine for office use, with additional toilets;
- A 1,500 SF expansion of existing biochemistry testing laboratory space including BSL-2 area, fume hoods and BSCs;
- A 2,000 SF building expansion for a cafeteria;
The warehouse area will be classified as a GMP warehouse with air conditioning and validated temperature monitoring as well as improved access control.
This project was put under the “Defense Production Act” to ensure timely delivery from all consultants, vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
