Paramount Theatre Reconstruction and Modernization

Managed by the City of Goldsboro, this building is the jewel of the community, used by local groups for plays, pageants, musical performances, live radio, and numerous other events.

Built in 1882, the 3-story Victorian brick building was constructed with the intention of hosting offices. Over the years, uses of the building deviated greatly from the original intentions. For a period of time, the second floor was used as a temporary synagogue, and the third floor was used by the Goldsboro Rifles to practice drills.

In order for the second floor to be used as a synagogue, a marquee and stage were added. Shortly after the synagogue moved out, the space became used as a theatre. The venue became increasingly popular and was the top motion picture theater in the area, eventually receiving its’ current name, the Paramount.

In 2005, the building was completely destroyed in a fire. Efforts to rebuild the theatre began, and the reconstructed, modernized, and well-equipped facility opened in 2008. In its current configuration, the facility’s seating capacity is 495, with 347 in the orchestra and 148 in the balcony.
