Due Diligence Overview and Red Flags at John Hancock/Manulife Originators Conference

Jeff Coyne, SVP, GRS Group an NV5 Company

Jeff Coyne, Senior Vice-President, alongside NV5’s Denver office presented at the John Hancock/Manulife Originators conference in Boston, Massachusetts. In attendance were forty members of the John Hancock/Manulife Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Originations team, each representing a regional office, and CRE professionals from the Manulife team in Canada.

The interactive presentation titled, “Due Diligence Overview and Red Flags” covered due diligence items and overviews of common red flags and items of concern for the John Hancock/Manulife team.  The presentation included how to spot possible issues at loan origination, offered the group options for early discussions with borrowers, and provided attendees key takeaways aimed at assisting CRE finance professionals in being more informed with Phase I, Property Condition, Seismic, Survey, and zoning-related concerns.  Also discussed were tips on collecting data, ways to probe borrowers at application about common issues, and advice on avoiding report conclusion pitfalls. The face-to-face presentation was highly interactive, covering specific deals of concern currently in process and options to redirect.
