Creating Resilient Structures

Resilient design delivers projects capable of adapting to change. Resiliency means preparing buildings and infrastructure to maintain service, and to rapidly rebound from extreme events.

The chief hazards to the built environment are storms, flooding, sea level rise, extreme heat, extreme cold, seismic activity, and human caused tragedies. Climate change increases the frequency and severity of many of these hazards pose.

NV5’s resilient design creates infrastructure that stands the test of time, providing long-term infrastructure solutions, building communities, enhancing neighborhoods, and inviting local investment.

NV5 has been at the forefront of protecting critical infrastructure in coastal cities including New York and Philadelphia. Projects include the 5-mile reconstruction of the Rockaways Boardwalk destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, and current projects that include protecting the low-lying Red Hook section of Brooklyn and the east Side Coastal Resiliency project that will protect Manhattan’s east side from the impacts of climate change.

NV5 has re-designed over two miles of New York City streets raising vulnerable roadways by as much as three feet to alleviate coastal flooding .”
