Tim Saultz awarded Dept of the Interior’s Distinguished Service Award

We extend our heartfelt  congratulations to our very own Tim Saultz, who was awarded The Distinguished Service Award, the highest honorary recognition an employee can receive within the Department of the Interior. Tim dedicated more than 25 years to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and was essential in developing consistent practices across Federal geospatial data collection, including the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) In his role, Tim provided information, relief, and resource direction in response to natural disasters, notably his work following Hurricanes Sandy, Harvey and Maria. NV5 Geospatial wants to send a special congratulations to Tim Saultz on this prestigious award and a “thank you” for his dedication to the Nation and the geospatial community. We’re thrilled to have him as part of our team now.

The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honorary recognition an employee can receive within the Department of the Interior. It is granted for an outstanding contribution to science, outstanding skill or ability in the performance of duty, outstanding contribution made during an eminent career in the Department, or any other exceptional contribution to public service. Recipients receive a special certificate and citation signed by the Secretary along with an engraved gold Distinguished Service Medal and a gold lapel pin.

Mr. Timothy W. Saultz is recognized throughout the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and across multiple Federal and State agencies for his more than 25 years of excellent work in the coordination of national-level elevation-data acquisition. He is particularly accomplished and celebrated for collaborating with the private sector, in conjunction with other Federal agencies, in the development of an acquisition model that serves as the baseline for the 3D Elevation Program, which is recognized as a best practice across the Federal geospatial community. Mr. Saultz served a vital role in this multi-agency program, ensuring that the most appropriate mapping techniques were used to acquire modern elevation data for the Nation. In his role as the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) for the Geospatial Products and Services Contract (GPSC) suite of contracts, he has provided exceptional leadership in the rapid deployment of resources to assist in emergency-response activities for natural disasters, including hurricanes, landslides, wildfires, and flood events. Mr. Saultz’s professionalism and diligence in this regard were responsible for the effective execution of multiple Departmental supplemental efforts, including the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and the emergency supplemental appropriations received following Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma. He provided oversight for millions of taxpayer dollars during his tenure as COR. In addition to his valuable contributions to Federal contracting, Mr. Saultz has been a champion for equality and diversity. He actively supported diversity efforts within his own team, including leading trainings on diversity for both the private-sector contractors on GPSC and the entire USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center. He ensured that all employees supporting USGS science are treated with respect and dignity in this organization.
