Sage’s Dave Seiler Talks School Microgrid Resiliency with New Project Media

Sage director of Business Development Dave Seiler spoke with New Project Media on how schools can boost their resiliency and lower energy costs with solar PV and battery storage microgrids – and how Temecula Valley Unified is leading the way:

With power safety and wildfire shutoffs on the brain, California school districts are starting to bolster their resiliency plans with microgrids.

Temecula Unified School District, alongside partner Sage Energy Consulting recently released a solicitation for solar+storage projects for two schools in the district, to be built on a microgrid at the K8 and Rancho Elementary School sites in Riverside County. Bid proposals are due 6 November, and will feature Tesla Power Packs in the design. The projects, one for a new school and the other for a facility undergoing modernization, are some of the first education-related projects to fully embrace the need for independent grid projects as the state braces for more climate change-related issues and the oncoming EV revolution.

“Temecula Valley has been one of the early developers for solar and storage and I think they really see the value there,” said Dave Seiler, director of Business Development at Sage. “For these particular projects, they’re looking at resiliency, and they want to be able to provide additional services if the power goes out…in the event of a [Public Safety Power Shutoff] or fire event when they have an outage.”
