As a result of tremendous growth over the last ten years and a continued desire to provide a completely learner-centered environment, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences renovated two buildings to create the new Center for Excellence in Practice.
Building One includes conference rooms, a boardroom, presidential office, and a multipurpose room. Rooms are equipped with audiovisual presentation systems and videoconferencing capabilities. The second building houses the learning commons, student organization suite, and study rooms for technology-based group discussion with flat panel displays. Conference rooms function as collaboration spaces featuring a front projection system for presentation practice and instructor lecture recording.
Building Two features the Home Care Apartment, equipped with video and audio capture for students to perform patient care in a simulated environment. In rooms such as the Ultrasound, Respiratory, and the Clinical Skills Labs, students practice what they have learned on high-fidelity manikins. Ultrasound labs use live patients, and the spaces are HIPPA compliant. The Operating Room, X-Ray / Nuclear Medicine Room, and Patient Rooms support actors / simulation manikins, and simulation rooms feature pan-tilt-zoom cameras.
As part of this project, a data center was designed in support of the new campus. NV5 planned and designed the data center to serve as the main point of presence on campus, allowing multiple service providers to deliver connectivity to numerous cloud providers for full redundancy and diversity. In addition to a robust cabling design throughout the two buildings, the data center was equipped with a raised floor to allow for future growth and additional changes. Efficient cooling, specialized fire protection requirements, and backup power needs were coordinated with the design team to ensure maximum uptime and efficient operations.
