NV5 spearheaded the Advanced Water Purification Program’s education and outreach campaign to inform the community about Padre Dam’s water reuse project in East San Diego County.
The award-winning public education and community outreach program includes an overview video, an animated video for families, speaker’s bureau, website, informational materials, and an extensive tour program that welcomes the public, schools, scout groups and civic organizations an interactive and up close look at the Advanced Water Purification facility. The goal of the effort is to raise awareness and educate the community about the purpose, need and benefits of the Advanced Water Purification project and begin forming new public attitudes about potable reuse.
“The program’s communication efforts have not only offered a learning opportunity but have succeeded in achieving pivotal opinion-changing experiences for our community. The outreach campaign has instilled confidence in the treatment process, highlighted the professionalism and competence of Padre Dam’s operations staff and reinforced the benefits and need of the program.” — Allen Carlisle, CEO and General Manager of Padre Dam Municipal Water District
The Padre Dam Advanced Water Purification Program takes recycled water and treats it further, using four advanced water purification steps, with the end product being water so clean that it is near-distilled quality. The purified water would be put into an aquifer or reservoir for storage and then treated again prior to distributing as drinking water. The program has the potential to create enough drinking water to provide up to 30 percent of East San Diego County’s water supply.
