NV5 was contracted by the Department of Energy and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop the characterization plans and perform the characterization of the Piqua Nuclear Power Facility (PNPF) located in Piqua, Ohio. This characterization was performed to support the ultimate demolition of the facility.
NV5 developed a Characterization Survey Plan based on the Multi-Agency Radiological Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) and provided the radiological portions of the Site Specific Health and Safety Plan (SHASP).
Following approval of the characterization and survey plans, NV5 personnel mobilized to the site and performed the surveys necessary to implement the plans. Surveys were performed for gamma, alpha, and beta emitting radionuclides. Surveys were performed for fixed and removable radioactive contamination. All surveys were completed within the two week window allowed by the schedule.
Following the field work, a detailed characterization report was provided to the stakeholders for review and acceptance.
