The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is a self-governing tribe in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Known for its thriving entertainment district, this community is growing in both population and business ventures. Accordingly, the amount of technology now being used within the area, both commercial and residential, is increasing as well.
Unique due to being contained in a dedicated stand-alone facility rather than a small space within a building designed for other purposes, the Data Center supports over 100 buildings and provides expanded data storage and management and supplies. Copper and fiber cabling gives the community options for bandwidth speed needs.
As a Tier 2 data center, this facility features redundancy in the network. An A and B side for both power and data means that operations can reliably continue with no stoppage in service if a problem should arise on one of the sides.
Scalability is the key design element of the facility. The building features plenty of extra space to grow right alongside the community. Expansion to the data floor, mechanical equipment or physical expansion can happen with no unplanned disruptions.
As a new building, it was important to take into consideration the new location of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment. Data centers become very hot due to the amount of heat that is generated by the equipment, and to prevent damage to the equipment, the facility design features hot air containment through an energy-efficient chimney design on the racks for more cost-effective cooling.
