Hopi Arsenic Mitigation Project Environmental Assessment

NV5 provided environmental assessment and public involvement services to the Indian Health Services for the Hopi Arsenic Mitigation Project. An improved water source was needed due to high arsenic concentrations in drinking water at Hopi communities. The project proposed constructing a remote well field, regional water storage tanks, in-line booster pump station, and transmission pipelines to convey water from a well field to the villages of First and Second Mesa. In 2014, NV5 completed an environmental assessment with the project. The project design was subsequently revised, and NV5 prepared an environmental assessment addendum. NV5 provided support for stakeholder and public meetings at Hopi. In 2020, NV5 organized and facilitated a virtual public meeting, which was held online and broadcasted by a local radio station. The Indian Health Service issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) that approved the project.
