Hurricane Irma Office and Manufacturing Building

NV5 was retained to assess how a southwest Florida office and manufacturing building flooded during Hurricane Irma although no damage was observed to the building envelope. NV5 concluded that clogged downspouts, the absence of secondary drain scuppers and the parapet walls allowed approximately 9,600 ft3 to rainwater to pool and seep through the roof. Furthermore, rusted metal studs, wood decay and tertiary fungal growth observed in the interior confirmed that this was a historical, repeated and long-term occurrence and not a singular event.
