NV5 has provided Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) compliance support services for the Veteran Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System (VA GLA). The Veteran Affairs is a Non-Traditional Permittee under the MS4 Permit and required additional compliance support for the facility in West Los Angeles. NV5 has provided annual reporting, statewide trash amendments implementation support, and programmatic inspections and investigations. One key task performed by NV5 involved a two-day comprehensive site visit and GPS data collection of catch basin locations and conditions, as well as potential pollutant hot spot allocations, using Trimble PathFinder Office and a professional grade Trimble Geo 7x GPS device. Field staff combined data, attributes, and photo logs and transferred these to ArcGIS. Quality assurance and quality control measures were performed on the data to ensure alignment with aerial imagery of the site. Information gathered during site visits was utilized by the client to determine areas where potential threats to water quality might occur.
Most recently, NV5 identified Priority Land Uses (PLUs) and significant trash generating areas within VA GLA’s jurisdiction to comply with Track 2 compliance requirements of the Trash Provisions. NV5 developed GIS maps identifying the PLUs and used this information to perform the baseline trash assessment following the On-Land Visual Trash Assessment (OVTA) protocols for storm water. NV5 also prepared the Track 2 Implementation Plan outlining the VA GLA’s approach to reducing trash loads over time. NV5 provides ongoing recommendations and support to assist the Veteran Affairs facility in achieving compliance.
