The Village at Totem Lake

NV5 provided a variety of environmental services for this 25-acre redevelopment project, including a mall and extensive residential development. The site was a former mall and retail center with multiple releases of petroleum hydrocarbons and solvents from fueling stations and dry cleaners. Services provided included Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), hazardous building materials surveys, remediation, and regulatory closure. Because of a release of solvents from a former dry-cleaning operation, NV5 conducted extensive soil, water, and soil gas surveys to assess potential health hazards.

Based on the findings of the assessments, NV5 worked extensively with the Washington State Department of Ecology to prepare a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study, design and implement a cleanup strategy which included groundwater cleanup, and design and install an engineered vapor barrier beneath the structure to mitigate potential impacts from soil vapors entering the building. NV5 also assisted in preparing a restrictive covenant as required by Ecology to facilitate regulatory closure. The site received a No Further Action (NFA) letter from Ecology in September 2020.
